We have 12 of those blimmin 50W halogen downlights - 4 in Kitchen and each of 2 bathrooms, 200W is silly just for lighting a
small room, although that's not up there with some of your records!
Over the year we have spent £30 on replacement bulbs

The rest of the house we replaced with standard energy savers which just happily porduce light without having to break every 6 months or so, and using a fraction of the power.
At the rate we're going, it would be worth £15 a bulb if they last more than 5 years (not to mention using less power), but we're only renting at the moment so we'll wait and see if there are any of the damn things wherever we end up buying.
