Makes perfect sense. I bought a conversion kit for my Mag in the 'States 3yrs ago. Also got a tac light which on one AA is hugely bright and outlasted the use by date on the supplied battery with regular use. If household lighting could make the same claims to improvements, I'd be there.

Well worth taking a look at 'LED Lenser' torches if you need a seriously bright but compact LED torch - I can highly recommend the 8402 P2, best small 12 quid torch you'll find IMHO.

We have 12 of those blimmin 50W halogen downlights - 4 in Kitchen and each of 2 bathrooms, 200W is silly just for lighting a small room, although that's not up there with some of your records!

Over the year we have spent £30 on replacement bulbs The rest of the house we replaced with standard energy savers which just happily porduce light without having to break every 6 months or so, and using a fraction of the power.

At the rate we're going, it would be worth £15 a bulb if they last more than 5 years (not to mention using less power), but we're only renting at the moment so we'll wait and see if there are any of the damn things wherever we end up buying.

Always keep the old bulbs so that you can replace them when you move.
