Open Sauce. (and put it back in the frig when you're done)

It's obviously the right choice, and yet most PC users would automatically post in the PC Software forum. That would probably include me if this poll hadn't made me think about it!

Networking gets my vote (as the logical wider gamut successor to the Internet forum)

How about a 'cross-platform software' forum?

Maybe just a software forum? I thought we were all playing nice, do we really need to segregate things to that degree? I know there are arguments for keeping it tidy, but maybe we can learn a little from each other if Mac and PC users are posting to the same sub-forum.

Just a thought.

Quite a good one, too.

I think it's neater to keep the two separate, though. Not because of any elitism or nuffink, more the PC side of the forum is a fair bit busier from what I can see, and Mac user posts might get swept away with the tide.

I don't mind trekking into the PC forums for questions specific to PC stuff (I have done this twice so far, and found it very helpful). If FF was in the PC software forum alone, it's possible new Mac users who come here wouldn't venture in there to find it.

Perhaps a general interweb software forum, covering browsers, email, ftp stuff? It could broaden a little to somewhere the web developers among us could offer testing in browsers on different platforms and so on.

I have to say that would be my personal preference as the open source forum, at the moment is mainly linux stuff, which is fair enough.

Thoughts on Heathers suggestion?

See my post above.
I'd certainly be happy to see the return of an Internet forum.
Technically it falls under the Networking banner but I guess that's a pretty big subject.

I voted pie because...

a) I'm quite hungry at the moment and

b) It doesn't matter where it goes, I'll find it...

Perhaps a very slight tweak on the title of the network forum? Many people don't really think of "browsing" as a network issue, even though it is. Something like "Internet and other network problems", although there must be a better way of saying that.

Where has the Internet forum gone? :p

I clicked on the wrong option. Open Source sounds right, although I still think of it mainly as the "Linux" forum... Do many people go there with questions about open source and not just Linux?

I'm attempting to get my head round some open source CMS, so I may appear in there eventually.

This is the problem with splitting up the forum into pigeon holes. Not everything has an obvious home.

I still think that making the categories more general is the best idea, but that would still leave FF as a bit of a dilemma. It's a cross-platform open source project, that lets you browse the web over the network.

However, specifically with regard to the point in hand - namely plugins - they're not really a "network" thing. At least, not all of them. Take skins for example; they're eye-candy and nothing to do with networks at all.

However, if there was an "Internet" section then that would be the natural home. Most people see "Networking" and think "routers, wires, port-forwarding, scary techy things I don't want to know". "Internet" is a lot more down to earth sounding for your average browser.
