Nice to know though don't you think? If you are pleased with it you can buy the same next time and you will be familiar with it. If you are less happy you will be able to avoid it in future.

It should be for general release in September. Most likely to coincide with the Snow Leopard release.

Fair point, but all I know is the phone is a nokia 6300. By the time I get round to upgrading the phone (which will be when it dies, so hopefully not for a good while yet), the nokia OS will have moved on to the point where it's a completely different beast. However, I know if I buy a (non-smartphone) nokia in the future, it'll still be vaguely familiar and I'll like it.

Perhaps not as Nokia is looking to change it's OS from Symbian to something I can't quite remember.

I don't have an OS. I'm trying to avoid having one as well. So I voted other. All my phones thus far have been "feature" and not "smart". There seems to be less to go wrong, but no always as with my K850i. Due for upgrade and could use something new with a fresh battery at least, but unsure what to go for.

The K850i runs Symbian. :? All phones run an OS of some description.

If you wanna get technical, yes all phones have an "OS". However, mine does not run Symbian or one of the other traditional operating systems. It's an SE feature phone and consequently has a proprietory Sony Ericsson GUI. Therefore, I would view it as not having an "OS" in the recognized sense of the word.

Sony GUI or not SE phones still run Symbian.

I picked cheese. I assume that's what A K810i runs.
As long as it works I don't really care quite frankly.

That is like saying "my PC runs Gnome Desktop, so it isn't running Linux / an OS"... :?

No it's not. Just because the GUI for my phone is written by the same people as the Symbian OS, doesn't mean it runs Symbian. If it did, I would have increased functionality like that of say the Nokia N series, or the higher end Sony phones. To computer people, such as those here, every device with a CPU of some kind has an OS. To phone people, only smart phones do. Phones with OSs would widely be regarded as iPhone, WinMo, or Symbian (mostly S60). As my phone runs none of those, I consider it (as do most phone retailers and geeks) to be without an "OS". Semantics perhaps, but surely not difficult to understand?

Quite simply your phone would not run without an OS.
