I have told the missus over and over again that what you see in the papers and on TV is a nonsense. She's now starting to see it. All of this '6 year old dies from swine flu' then the next day we find out they had an underlying medical condition. Then the headline changes to '6 year old dies whilst having swine flu'. People at work have had it and apart from the raging temperature some have described the symptoms as 'mild'. Doesnt quite sound a scary after that!

It's always strange that after 27 people die (most if not all either non related or were sick anyway) the papers star treporting 300+ people a day will die.
Must mean the economy is getting better as it's now old news

Okay, paracetamol instead of aspirin. I was parroting a doctor who had experienced the Hong Kong flu pandemic of the late 1960s.

I don't mind the authorities being prepared for a worst case scenario. What I don't get is the media hyping it and panicking everyone. The government isn't doing much better.

We all need a big dose of perspective and soda. By all accounts, the swine flu virus is a much weaker specimen of the breed than the 1968 one, which in turn was weaker than the 1950s one, and so on right back to 1918. Let's get a grip before we miss the whole point.

that's why i suggested Indian tonic water with quinine and then paracetamol/co-codamol or Iperprofen …

I take co-codomal (Solpodol) everyday. The really strong ones (30/500). They're great! ;)

Back to the original topic- get well soon, Oliver and yes paracetamol is recommended. Ibuprofen can be more effective on temperatures than paracetamol based on my experience with the kids and paracetamol and ibuprofen.

Get well soon.

With the warning that ibuprofen is not to be taken if you are asthmatic (pharmacists generally ask before handing any out). Aspirin can also be a trigger, though from personal experience I’ve been fine with it in the past.

+1, no warning from my GP about that. I learned that one the hard way, I also get a mild allergic reaction to NSAIDs now.

We think Brooke's got it... Giving her liquid paracetemol and not letting her play out, which she not bothered about since she doesn't feel well.

She'll be fine, as will you all :)

The worrying thing, coming from the USA, is the legislation they are making to make it impossible for the populace to sue the drug makers for side effects from the 'flu vaccine, whilst at the same time making it mandatory to have the shots and allowing it to come to market without testing... :?

The three combined don't sound good and the first should set off warning bells about the second and third!

You may be interested to know that the capsules that Amoxycillin (much used antibiotic - I get it when I have chest infections) come in use colourings that are known to trigger asthma. The last lot I had had a leaflet saying this. I should have kept it to show the doctor next time I need them. I’ve not had any problems with them, but the warnings are there.

I linked to the story in the vaccination thread.

This whole "get a grip" thing is one stage. But there's more going on here than meets the eye.

Amoxycillin works fine with me, but I don't get problems with non-steroidals either.
