what dangers? ;) Im just imagining a "how will bratty die poll thread" with options "asbestosis" "lead poisoning" "ww2 explosive" hm what else, drowning? buried alive ;)

I've 100's and 100's of bottles now and got a hidden stash in a forest, Im badly needing somewhere to store all my ww2/victorian stuff :(

I accidently dropped my 1860's stoneware one on concrete ground, absaloutly no damage luckily

Do you need that many bottles?
Do you have any barbershop or apothecary ones that you fancy shipping to London for the shave den?

What my friend says …
"It's written in old German style calligraphy, but it seems English words.
Newton steward?
A present from Newton steward?"

That was her best guess.

Well, if you were doing your archaeology correctly, you would be able to tell us as what it was found with, where it was found and even how far down you had to dig would be a clue. I suspect you just wailed in with a spade. Not even Time Team does that.

So, really, you'd need to look for any marks on the piece that would identify the maker, and spend time in a library looking through catalogues of pottery marks.

Next time: record the context.

"1oz" is a measurement of weight - short for 1 ounce. Looks like you have part of some scales.

started digging again today in the rain, found bottles I already have but differant sizes, ie the copper coloured poison bottles but this one was smaller, and a marmite 80z bottle which is bigger than my other one, when I was just about to leave heard another "clunk" and an ink bottle popped out the side of the ditch where I was last digging, says "SWAN INK MABIE TODD & CO LTD" with a picture of a swan in the middle and a lot of the dark blue ink still inside it sealed with the rusted lid.

edit: looked it up and sites say the company was founded in 1884

Bratty - just take all your stuff down to London, open a shop in Notting Hill and you’ll be made. Here’s a training video that shows you how it’s done:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVvcD4Czx4Y

Also - as I Saw You Coming, I’d expect a commission on your sales. Shall we say 70% off the top?
