Currently a fan of Geo. F. Trumpers coconut oil hard soap - I won't even begin to predict when I'm going to run out of it. I've had it since January 2010, and I imagine it'll see the year out, probably a significant chunk of next year too.
Not bad for the £17.50 it costs.

Blade - King Of Shaves Azor. For the money, just as good as the Gillette offerings, IMHO.

Brush - Wilkinson Sword cheapo thing from Superdrug. I need to upgrade this soon, as it's losing bristles.

Nivea post shave balm of varying kinds depending what's on offer.

Hmm I shall have a look at the Body Shop stuff, though I do think the stuff they sell is expensive for what it is. ( I should get a better paid job i suppose)

I have also used the Wilkinson Sword shaving soap with a brush, that wasn't bad. I prefer Body Shop stuff, but it'd happily go back to the Wilkinson Sword stuff.
It comes in a blue dish.

Try the Trumpers stuff.
It's like chalk and cheese in comparison to the Wilkinson Sword blue bowl stuff, which I started using.

I have a babyliss istubble (not sure why it's called that as it doesn't connect to the Internet), which l use to keep my stubble at 0.5mm. When I wet shave I use a gillette sensor excel razor with king of shaves Azor gel. I used to use king of shaves aftershave gel, but they've stopped making it, so I use gillette aftershave gel. Don't particularly like it, but haven't found a suitable alternative.

I use an electric shaver through the week, except Monday mornings because a weekend's growth is too much for it deal with.

I used to have one of those steam-proof mirrors in the shower, and wet shave there. Can't find the bloody thing anywhere since we moved.

Anyone got any tips to stop getting a post-shave rash or irritation when the stubble grows back?

Bic basic disposable razors and water. As long as you keep the skin wet you shouldn't get burned.

Everything else is a con IMO.

I use King of Shaves shaving oil as a pre-shave balm, then Gilette Fusion HydraGel (not the foam). My skin is already dry and if I don't moisturise frequently, it comes off in big flakes.

Routine is wash face and use a facial scrub. Unfortunately this dries my skin out, though it works well at cleaning it.
Then use small face towels, soaked under the hot water tap, squeeze and then apply to face for twenty seconds at a time and repeat.
Use my pre-shave balm.
Use my foaming gel.
Use my Gilette whatever razor (not the very latest one, the one before that)
Rinse and use a moisturising cream.

I have to do this regularly as stubble can make my face sore. Keeping it moisturise helps ease the stubble.

I find the better I lather up and leave the cream on longer before shaving (to soften the hairs) and also using the soap quite warm helps. If you don't soften the hairs then the razor will snag on each one. With a weekend of growth this can be quite uncomfortable but if I spend a while preparing then a weekends growth feels like nothing and I do t get irritation.

That applies to irritation during shaving and after also as there is a cleaner cut to the hairs.

I've found that being tolerant of a little stubble left over helps, cutting the hair too short often makes it irritate when it grows back, you can cut the hair too short when going against the grain. I've also found that moisturising afterwards helps a lot, as does changing the blades when they start to drag.

Question - Are you folks getting razor burn etc because of how often you're shaving? Or because of the length of time you've been shaving over the years?

I've the worst skin in the world, but I've never had razor burn etc yet - I started out many moons ago with an electric razor, then progressed to wet shaving, both twice a week usually. Never had any problems, and all I do is throw warm water round my gob then apply the shaving gel, sometimes after 4 or more days of growth :?

Oh yeah, then I splash the cold water on, if that makes any difference...
