I live very close and it is a real, real shame. There's now parts of 3 cathedrals within a few hundred yards of each other, the Basil Spence one being the ugliest of the lot. The cathedral destroyed in WWII has started suffering from fairly major cracking in recent months, unfortunately. I've not heard what the current status is.

Lots of work has been carried out on the old-old Cathedral too, over the last 5 years, and the excavated sections now form part of a garden from what I can remember.

I lived opposite the cathedral for 3 years (Priory Hall) and also had my graduation there.

For a train traveling at 125mph I need to be 6' 6" away from the track to be safe. Plus a whole load of railway safety stuff.

Exam tomorrow...

There's a theory that every electron in the universe is the same electron.
I like this.

"identical" has a very particular meaning in particle physics.

And anyway, there is no spoon.

I'm not sure they're right when they say "electrons are strange"... are they? I confess I never exactly completed my particle physics module, but I did read most of the books. Slightly over twenty years ago...

Or maybe he meant "not normal" rather than "strange".

Electrons of themselves are (or maybe one should say The electron is) not strange, but they can do strange things. That's quantum mechanics for you.

It's an attractive theory, but I can't actually see any way that you could possibly provide proof of it. All electrons are pretty much identical anyway. So it's a bit hard to tell if what you're looking at are two electrons or the same electron doing weird things with space-time. It's like looking at two photographs of someone you know has an identical twin. I can't think how you'd tell if you were looking at two photos of the same person, or one photo each of the two twins.

Jon

I used to learn all that sort of fun stuff whenever Dad's qualifications were up for renewal! Glad you passed, Ben!
