Some lovely pubs in London. I'll be going to a new one in Dalston next week. One of my favourites is Doggetts on the Thames at Blackfriars Bridge. Fantastic views of the river & St Paul's .

How about this for an unfortunate juxtaposition of two photos on the Daily Mail website today?

But does it do good home cooked food? The mark of a truely great pub.

Can any pub actually do 'home cooked' food? Surely it's at best 'pub cooked'?

You know what I mean. Cooked from scratch on the premises rather than brought in and heated up.

Even with 'home cooked' they will cook a lot of it in bulk then heat it up when required.

Well a lot of pub food is cooked to order so no wastage, though it is inevitably frozen food so no problems about going off while in storage either.

When I worked in the kitchen some of the meat was frozen but the potatoes and veg were fresh and stored in the fridge. Everything was colour coded so it was not kept longer than it should be.

The Euston Tap does beer, from many taps, but no cooked food. Given the size of it, it'd be ridiculous trying to squeeze a kitchen in. It's definitely a meeting point, rather than somewhere where you can settle into a corner for an evening.

I tend to do more drinking than eating in London pubs anyway. Lots of good food country pubs near where I live.

Argh! I have to pay fine + pts for speed. Not an issue but I couldn't find my paper counterpart for ages. Found it and checked - thought I had another week left to send and turns out 28 day deadline is tomorrow. worst bit is I's have been able to send it earlier in the week if I didn't have so many terminally ill patients to worry about. I'd have happily given it in person today but work have asked me to come in on my day off because there aren't enough doctors to cover the surgery (admin fault). Will try for 9am delivery and keep fingers crossed since it says it has to be returned within 28 days, not necessarily paid up. I hope.

When I had a fine for parking I could pay over the phone. Can you not do same for speeding? (been years since I had one of those - must be not-far-from-alleged-middle-age-of-55 thing)

You have to send your license in so they can put the points on the paper counterpart.
TBH surprised it isn't all electronic these days with some kind of chip on the fard holdin details of pts etc.
