Even if you paid mega bucks for the 64GB version, you wouldn't be able to store many films on there anyway.

Now who is being misleading? iPad does not cost mega bucks, it does not even cost kilo bucks.

In other news about the iPad Steven Fry seems to love it. http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/20 ... apple-ipadMaybe I have been a bit hasty in writing it off as just a large iPod. I have read/heard several reviews now. Those that have actually touched one seem to love it. Maybe the criteria I should use to judge it is not by what it can or can't do but by how much of a joy is it to use for the things it does do. Apple don't live and die by spec sheets, they have made their reputation on intuitive interface design and in quality of build and service. I will wait till I get hands on before I complain further.

As much as I gripe about the damn thing I'd probably find it useful. A bit of browsing at home when I cant be bothered to boot the PC, taking my baby photos around to the 'olds' for them to see and at a push it would stop me from buying an e-reader which i'm seriously considering. It would have been nice to have had an SD slot but then I guess we'd all buy the cheapest model and stick a 16GB SD in it for storage. Its not the perfect device and IMO it has shortfalls but depending on UK pricing I'm having one.

Same, it's a close call between this and the next iPhone for me I realise the next iPhone isn't even a rumour yet but I'm waiting to see what it's like.

A quote by Stephen Fry from the above linked blog. This is the bit that persuades me

Is there not something similar going on with the Kindle? You would have thought that the publishers would be keen to get on board with all of these devices.

Not available at launch, much like the video part of iTunes. It'll get there eventually.
As an aside, one of the advantages I thought the IPad might have is fast switch on for convenience of use. I just tested my NC-10 (running windows 7) against my iphone and they took pretty much the same amount of time to go from powered down to 'log in screen', so there's no real difference there. However I suppose the iPad will be quicker if it actually does have a 'stand by time' of a month, because you'll probably never actually switch it off...

No USB is crap but I got over it. No SD was almost a deal breaker. No iBooks is a surefire way to make me keep hold of my hard earned money. I hope this situation changes soon.

I am not sure why I would want USB, I have not missed it on my iPhone. SD is a technology I have never used, I have always just synced my camera. There is an SD reader available as an accessory I noticed. As to iBooks there are lots of bookreading apps. for the iPod touch, surely these will all work? I use Stanza and it seems to works just fine (not that I use it much). On a side note what do we call this category of devices? Pads? Slates? Tablets? Mini Tablets? Net-tabs? Ereaders? I just don't know?

Fair enough but simply plugging my camera into the device via USB or the SD card via an inbuilt slot is a much more convienient way to view photos rather than have to sync them using iTunes or the like. Also the SD adapter and USB adapter is (maybe Im a cynic) a ploy to make us buy something extra that really ought to have been there in the first place. If the ports are really not that neccessary then why are adapters available already? And the book reading apps. Again fair enough but then this is one of the main features of this device at launch yet not available to UK customers. For every plus point to this device I'm finding another negative to be honest. I just cant make up my mind. Maybe I'll wait for iPad 2.0 with its built in SD, better resolution screen, OS update to support multitasking, etc

Given the history of the iPhone you'll be waiting a long time for increased screen resolution. The iPhone is still using the same resolution in it's third incarnation.

I don't think the iPhone needs any increase in resolution. I'll have a poke about the SDK this afternoon, maybe, but certainly for the iPhone there isn't much potential for it to change. I can't see it changing for iPad, either.
