Saying 'A New Hope' means you just about deserve it. I don't know which year it came out but when it did it was sodding called STAR WARS. Jon

I was talking in the context of the quote above my post Jon. I'm well aware that you old-timers call it Star Wars.

Return Of The Jedi - restored footage When Star Wars comes out on Blu-Ray shortly, this scene - previously excised from Return Of The Jedi - will be among the restored clips. It was unveiled at a recent Star Wars event as a teaser and has been leaked on YouTube. Just to make sure you never get a definitive version of Episodes IV to VI in your medium of choice.

I laughed at the bit about the original prints costing too much to remaster - Lucas could probably see it as an investment and throw some of his 'pocket change' at it

Cost too much? Hmm. I'd believe 'It's a proper ball-ache sitting there doing it, we did it once, and frankly I'd much rather be getting on with other stuff, like counting my vast piles of $100 dollar bills.'

Unlikely as it is not yet available as a new product. I think I will get the Jedi one though instead. http://www.play.com/Gadgets/Gadgets/4-/ ... oduct.html

Ball-ache or not, there's a market there that would certainly want it. To be fair, Lucas has enough cash that he could employ someone to do it and not have to take another interest in it if he hates the original versions so much. There's an interview here with Gary Curtz which some here may find illuminating. Mark

Right. How could you doubt it? If I recall correctly it was almost '78 in the UK, but not quite. I think it was one of those Boxing Day releases over here. Mark

I'd always read that the Ewoks were basically a financial decision (didn't much care, Jedi's still a better sci-fi film than what you get today, for instance), but that sort of thing really got out of hand with the prequels... Hell, Lucas even got Spielberg involved in the sense that your sequel becomes an ad for toys and other merch (Indy 4, JP2). I just hope Spielberg is kept on the right path with Tintin

Lucas always had the merchandise deal, as it all happened before the era of merchandise being the norm.

I know this, as it was Star Wars that started the whole merchandise ball rolling for Hollywood. That doesn't mean that film-making creativity should bend to the will of the merchandising markets, which is the way that Lucas apparently went during the prep. for Jedi. Mark

Yes but merchandising was about from the 60's with batman toy cars etc, maybe it was not considered a big enough segment for the studio to get interested.
