I've been reading about this this week.
It better be good or I'll be sad.

Easter egg shows Firefly and Prometheus exist in the same universe

It seems that writing Alien: Resurrection wasn't the only time Joss Whedon got to work in the Alien universe: The inclusion of one tiny logo—the Weyland-Yutani Corporation logo—in Firefly reveals that Ripley and Mal Reynolds could've gone drinking together.

In the opening sequence of Firefly's pilot episode, "Serenity," Nathan Fillion's Malcolm Reynolds is fighting the Battle of Serenity Valley. And losing. But before he's forced to lay down his guns, he hops behind a giant anti-aircraft cannon to shoot down an Alliance fighter. And when he powers up the gun, the heads-up-display reveals a very familiar logo in the top part of the screen:

firefly-weyland-yutani.jpg

That logo looks a mite familiar, doesn't it?

weyland-yutani-corp-logo.jpg

Just like that, two of science fiction's most beloved universes become one. And I feel like a bit of a moron for not noticing it sooner.

If you can, iPlayer Winterwatch 1963 - The Big Freeze. The film they show, made about the extreme winter weather in 1963, has Ridley Scott credited as the designer.

Weyland-Yutani are also mentioned in an episode of Angel as being clients of Wolfram & Hart.

Hmm. Something has niggled me about Prometheus for a while. Could not put my finder on it until today.

Both Prometheus and Doctor Who has a Liz (Elizabeth) Shaw.

Oh. Interesting - Alien3. Made a rewrite of a few Dark Horse comic books necessary, as they featured Hicks and Newt.

I own many of those but have never read them since I got into the novels first (you tend to get both formats). Same with Predator. Dark Horse have done some great stuff when it comes to movies and spin-offs.

That Predator fan film from the link is well worth a watch.

It'll be too close to what they're trying to do with Hicks and Ripley now.

That's a shame. It would be good to see Carrie again.

A fried of mine from my time at the DHSS was at school when Aliens was being shot. His English teacher was Carrie's on set tutor/chaperone.

Sigourney Weaver: 'Alien vs. Predator' "Really Depressed Me" - Hollywood Reporter - The Hollywood Reporter

AvP happened because both franchises were dead in the water at the time. As it is, Prometheus was met with a mixed reception and Predators probably makes more money from it's toys!

Personally I liked Prometheus, and thought Predators was OK but had too many minor characters to work. But I'm really looking forward to the sequels to both because you've got two brilliant sci-fi types at the helm and a studio that likes it's franchises now that everybody else does.
