Just got time for a quick mug of coffee then.

Well, we'll check again at 16:11 that's the second (and final) option for the Alpacalypse......

My thoughts are that if this is the last day of the Mayan Calendar, then surely today does exist. It’s the day after you need to worry about.

There was an item on the news last night. Huw Edwards looked most unimpressed about it when that item was done.

If I think about what I've read, then what this represents is a new "age" or era. It could be merely calendrical it that, as I mentioned, the numbers flip over and everything resets its self so tomorrow would be, say, day 1 of month 1 of year 1 (or 0).

If it means that there's a new era and it represents a true change, it's unlikely to be anything dramatic but a slow progression over a period of time in the same way as if we were going into an ice age. The world wouldn't be covered in snow overnight but would happen over many millenia.

If it does represent "the end of the world", even then it doesn't mean the destruction has to start immediately but it could represent the end of "safety" and that any time in the future, destruction could occur. I severely doubt the world would end immediately without forewarning.

Well it is probably like ours in that it ends at December 31st and then starts again at January 1st. The Mayans had a longer cycle. The earth wobbles around the pole ever 25800 years or so, yet continues on. I am not worried, but am prepared for most events.

So I was in the local coffee shop buying lunch and as I and m'colleagues were being served we were discussing 'the end of the world' with the staff. The attractive Transylvanian (yes she is) waitress was espousing the theory that the world was due to end at 12:12 today (GMT). As she was handing me a sandwich she looked up at the clock and said 'There's only a few minutes to the end of the world, what are we going to do?'

I consider it both a triumph for my level of good manners and a catastrophic failing for my bloke credentials that I actually decided against the obvious answer.

You numpty!!! You could have made the Earth move for her! And if it was the end of the world, it wouldn't have been a bad way to go!

The worse thing was it wasn't one of those 'thought of it five minutes later' jobs, I actually thought about it at the time and thought 'naah'. I've let the my species down :(.
