I’m scheming something - that something is so far known to myself and a select few, partly because I’m still mapping out what I want to do and how I want it to work. Given that the signals are that I’m not going to get much work out of what I’ve been doing (a phone conversation today didn’t exactly inspire my confidence that it will), I’m considering a sideways step. So far, the business minded people I’ve been speaking to are very positive about my ideas, and that’s starting to consolidate in my head. I am starting to think that I will have to take the next step. The painful one - that is raising funds to get going. Some of that will be talking to some banks to see what they can do to supplement my cash investment.

It has the potential of getting rather scary and exciting in equal measures. The question is - dare I step off the pier - is the tide in?

Can't say for certain, obv, but there is a school of wisdom that says if you're going to start something businessey, starting it just after the economy has gone through a recession (i.e. just after it hits the bottom of the curve) is actually a good idea, given in the long run things are likely to get better before they get worse again. I'd say if you can do whatever you plan to do without requiring significant external funding (which is pretty hard to get right now) then why not.
