The Boston Molasses Disaster, also known as the Great Molasses Flood and the Great Boston Molasses Tragedy, occurred on January 15, 1919, in the North End neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts in the United States. A large molasses tank burst, and a wave of molasses rushed through the streets at an estimated 35 mph (56 km/h), killing 21 and injuring 150. The event has entered local folklore, and residents claim that on hot summer days, the area still smells of molasses.

, Now that's more like it! There are more insects in one square mile of rural land than there are humans on the entire earth.

Bish said: "Hot water is heavier than cold water." Which is kind of meaningless, because she doesn't specify a quantity or temperature range and she does not say "denser". 1 litre of water at 4°C weighs more than 1 litre of water at 1°C. 1 litre of water at 1°C weighs more than 1 litre of water at 40°C. 1Kg of water weighs 1Kg. 1Mole of water weighs much the same at any temperature, but is a tiny bit heavier when hotter because of E=MC².

No it doesn't. 1Kg of water applies 9.8 newtons of force onto a supporting structure close to the earth's surface. Or something.

1 Mole of any gas (at atmospheric temperature and pressure) fills about 24 litres of space... or something.
OK, from Wolfram Alpha it looks like that was a lie told to me by my chemistry teacher.
Although there are quite a few gases that occupy about that volume there are some that occupy a lot less space.

That's from QI! That may be related to the fact that coloured vegetables are more nutritious than bog-standard green veg. So red and yellow peppers are supposed to be more nutritious than green peppers, hence people would eat coloured veg.

Battenburg cakes are named after a small Balkan Principality. The first cake, whose cross section of yellow and pink squares, represented the flag of the Principality’s region, was commissioned by the then King Muskar XII to mark the successful (and somewhat bloody) quashing of a revolt lead by peasants in 1574. Legend has it that the King had cakes distributed to those attending the execution of the revolt’s ring leaders.
Today, the Battenburg cake is consumed by middle class suburbanites, unaware of the history behind the colourful confection.

I'm very tired right now.
Hey, it's a fact, and it's sure as hell totally useless!
