I never found gestures useful for navigating the UI. I do like using voice commands though so I hope they've kept them.

Flailing arms around to control any kind of UI is s dreadful experience. You end up with what's known as "gorilla arms". So not surprised they've dropped it. Sometimes, the controller in your hand is all you need.

I bought the XBox One without the Kinect for my son last xmas. He hasn't missed it - he didn't use the old one at all, except briefly as a microphone when his headset was playing up.

The main stuff I use my Kinect for... Turning the Xbox and tv on and off.

Also for taking the odd screen capture.
