That worked so well with Sim City, EA.

So there's bad publicity for no real reason or benefit before the game's even released. Genius.

I did have hopes for this but always online pees me off. Namely because things happen. Internet connections go down. Or you're in a place with no net connection.

There are some games that require an online connection.

WoW for instance. Eve online. Etc...

But this is stupid. If you can play a game on your own with only content that is stored locally then why the connection?!

Having said that. There are games that are online only and doing well. Destiny for instance. You can play through as a single player campaign mode. But you have to be online.

I think Sim City is an anomaly as they not only made it online only but completely destroyed the game as well. They took an immersive simulation game and turned it into something like FarmVille. Not sure if the bad reaction was due to one or the other?

I almost certainly won't be playing it anyway, online or off. Are any of the NFS games actually good?

The original was good back in 96 or so. I never played any of the others until NFS: underground 1 & 2 which tapped into the street racing combined with pimp my ride and car modification phenomena of the early noughties. Both were very successful. This was followed by most wanted which cut back on a lot of things but added the excitement of being chased by police. I played NSF undercover but it was crap in comparison and it's gone downhill from there IMO.
