I think there's an issue here that they've changed the 'sleep' behaviour. They've changed the name as well although I'm not sure that's significant.

Before firmware 2, when the PS4 was asleep it always showed the yellow LED strip. When I got up this AM it looked like my PS4 had shut itself down entirely due to some sort of failure - the strip was unlit. But I tapped the 'on/playstation' button on the controller and up it came no problem.

I suspect they've put in some kind of 'deep sleep' mode that shuts the light off entirely, and haven't bothered telling anyone that it's changed. I've only read some of the reports, but are people actually trying to switch them back on, or are they just assuming something has gone wrong and pulling the power cable?

It could also be that some of the time the 'deep sleep' mode is causing the console to somehow lose bluetooth connectivity to the pad, so the pad can't switch the PS4 back on. It's be easy to forget there's a power button on the front, because in normal use there's absolutely no reason to use it.

Basically, are we sure the PS4's are actually shutting themselves off, or does it just look like it?

In my case nothing worked after putting it into 'rest mode', not the pad nor the PS4 power button as a sort of replacement; had to hold the PS4 power button down and put it into safe mode, then reinstall the update. It wasn't even sending a signal to the TV otherwise, or ejecting a disc.

You can guarantee quite a few people will have sent their PS4s to Sony as a result. Christ, if you didn't look hard enough you wouldn't even know there were buttons on the front of the PS4.

Having recently installed a 'fat' PS3 downstairs, there's a lot to be said for an inbuilt power switch.

An optional update to fix problems created by an update, and now a mandatory update. Well done, Sony.

Does anyone know how quickly indie games usually turn up on Plus? I appreciate not everything does.

I'm tempted by the Tiny Troopers game (it's basically Cannon Fodder for those old enough to remember it!), but I'm liable to buy it and have it appear on Plus in a few days... I'm wary of buying off PSN in the first place there's that much dross on there. There's so many games I'd get if there was just a bloody demo

IIRC they've already published the list of PS+ games for Nov & Dec on the official blog, so if it's not there it won't be on PS+ this side of Christmas.

Cheers, yeah, not on those lists after checking. It's all got me thinking though that I can spend my time with those upcoming games and actually trying to finish Strider before obtaining 'Troopers!

Some bits of the design are quite nice (I like the PS pad button symbols embossing for example) but the pad looks crap and overall it's a fairly dull thing. It actually looks better in either black or white than it does 'in between'.

Make sure you don't neglect Plus on your PS3 if you've got a PS4 - Hitman Trilogy is on this month, for instance.

EA giving away some free games this weekend only to celebrate PS's anniversary

None of them are brand new, but they're all decent games.

I'll be astounded if there's anything worth buying even after that discount.
