At this point, if you haven't got PS+ you really would have to be a bit mental (or utterly skint, in which case you should probably sell your PS3 to buy food).

I find the discounts negligible and the free, good games I've already got, without them taking up drive space in the meantime

Bah. The automated download function and cloud storage are worth 2.50 a month between them. I did the firmware update this morning, took 30 seconds because it had already downloaded it.

These days, I am being cheap. If the Plus fee gives me games for “free” then fine. I’ve saved a lot with the free games I’ve downloaded this year already. If you add them up it’s well over £100 I’ve kept. The last game I paid for was Skyrim last November.

I've never bothered with PS+. Are the games yours once you've downloaded them or are you just renting them ie can't play once PS+ stops.

The rule is : If you got it for free, it stops working if you quit paying for PS+. However if you paid anything for it at all - even a penny - it works forever. So the 'free' stuff is rented effectively, but the discounts are real. The discounts can be quite decent but obviously if you're not interested in the things that are being discounted it's no use at all.

I suspect over a year you'll probably make back the price in discounts if you buy a fair chunk of the discounted stuff. But the '500 quid's worth of games for 40 quid' is being a bit.. economical with the truth.

As I say though, the automated patch downloading and save game cloud syncing is worth the asking price on it's own to me, the games are just a nice extra.

My main problem is, discount or not, I could in most cases go and buy the games cheaper and quicker than waiting on the download! And I can do what I want with the disc. If it wasn't for demos and COD I wouldn't use PSN at all, it's crap in just about every way :(

Renamed the thread, here's some news ;)

New budget PS3 Essentials software range detailed

You can pick most of those games up at that price or cheaper anyway!

Also, there's stupidly priced Slimmer models out soon, and the Store gets some sort of update in October. I'd guess it'll match the Yank store, which is even worse than what we have now

PS Plus expands to Vita in November

I see they've finally gotten around to doing TV ads people might notice. Pity they're showing about the only three games that might even begin to interest you (Fifa, Uncharted and LBP).

I wouldn't claim the Vita has been a roaring success but, in fact, those three are far from being the best games on it (although admittedly I haven't played LBP Vita yet, it's not going to be much different to LBP PS3 really is it?).

HD Metal Gear trilogy fan are you? ;) ;) ;)

It'll eventually get there, but it hasn't even got many worthwhile mainstream PS3 'ports' never mind 'killer apps'. And they need to drop the price if ANY game is to be worthwhile developer-wise.

And I do find it a pity; if nothing else I want the '69p games are the future!' crowd neutered...

Actually I'm not really an MGS fan at all no

The best games I've got on my Vita are Wipeout 2048 and Gravity Rush, by some margin. And I have got FIFA and Uncharted. 2048 with the free add-on you get if you've already got WipeOut HD on PS3 is absolutely stunning. Gravity Rush is a bit... Japanese but in terms of VFM, it's up there with anything I've seen on any of the mainstream platforms recently.

IMO, Sony chose those three because those are the ones the majority of people seeing the advert would recognise. Quality wasn't a factor. Although I do suspect not showing the Vita CoD port was a quality issue - i.e. it's utter gash.

BTW, if you haven't see it have a look for a game called 'Tearaway' - it's the LBP people doing a game actually for the Vita, rather than just a port. Looks amazing.

I tend to dismiss Japanese games almost immediately - I know I shouldn't, but they're so fcuking out there

I'd heard good things about Tearaway, but the art style puts me off immediately :(
