I appear to have become some kind of vampire.
I also have contracted Rock Joint.

Theres a shrine in Whiterun you can pray at which will cure the rockjoint (IIRC I got that after being attacked by a Saber toothed cat), not sure about vampirism though. That probably requires some sort of quest.

As it is I bought Star Wars : The Old Republic over Christmas, which has rather put my Skyrim habit on hold. Nice to play a game that looks like it had at least some testing before being pushed out...

Well I came home from Christmas to find one of my housemates stuck to a PS3 controller speeding his way through to level 12 in under a few hours - I admire his steadfast approach to demolishing his way through games - me, I've just started life as a female Dark Elf, knowing full well I've still plenty of half-started-nowhere-near-completed save games in RDR, Far Cry 2 & The Orange Box still to play (on) with... and I've just gone and bought the remastered twinset of ICO & Shadow of The Colossus! :D

As for Skyrim, I didn't take to it at first, the RPG-element was a little too much for me (and the reason why I never even made it out of the vault in Fallout 3!) - but with a bit of extended wandering I've given up using the double-handers, I know they're not really aimed at Dark Elfs, but I do love a good Warhammer - but having played with using a Mace + Fire I've settled (so far) on the Skyforge War Axe + Shock (got the shout for fire, I just need to kill another dragon at some point). I'm fairly content - especially seeing as I "acquired" a very nice steel plate armor ensemble from "Uthgerd the Unbroken" after she got beat down hard by the Necromancers in the flooded keep dungeon under the lake.

I've still not really tackled the "real" quests yet - I'm Thane of Whiterun (with Lydia by my side) and part of the Companions, but have yet to get past the dragon and/or frost troll on my way up to see the Greybeards - which I know is the next "real" step onward... I just get this retched feeling that I need to put it down, and see out the other games first...

You can run past the frost troll.

There are lots more trolls and frost trolls in the game so you need to think of a strategy. I've built up health and weapon skills enough that I can kill trolls with a few blows of the warhammer. Three lots of perks to go before I have full two-handed weapon ability.

I used a method of "kiting" the troll down the steps to the woman at the bottom. She then helped fight it until she died and then I kited it back up the stairs and then back down etc... until it was dead.

Careful though, trolls have very fast health regen.

If you are on the side of a mountain, try using the first shout you get to fire them over the edge. Worked for me nicely.

I think he's talking about the troll that stands in the way of going to get the first shout.

No JL's on the ball

(SPOILERS)
The "first" shout (unrelenting force) comes from the Bleak Falls Barrow stage, you get the "second" shout (a fireball of some kind) from Dustman's Crypt with Farkas.
(/SPOILERS)

I'm liking the suggestion of using it to push others off the edge (I'd not found much of a use for it up to now) 8-)

First day back at work, so I'm counting down the hours to get out of here and put my feet up... I think I know what I've got planned for the evening.

Being a vampire is, at the moment, a PITA. The problem now is that I’m being killed on sight. Apparently, I have to find sleeping people, drink their blood and I’ll be less revolting to people. I need to get to Morthal to be cured.

Edit: A video on how to be cured.

http://uk.ign.com/videos/2011/11/18/sky ... -vampirism

Oh, crap. It’s a case of sneaking around and breaking into houses now.

My first glitch: I followed a priest from from Dawnstar to some temple on a minor quest, and he disappeared after passing through the door. May need to resort to the console...

Touch wood I've not had any issues like that.

Rather stupidly, despite killing loads of dragons and absorbing their souls, I never seem to have enough to unlock the shouts. After a google, turns out that I have to *unlock* the shouts. Each unlock costs a soul, and to unlock advanced versions of the shouts requires more souls.

Wished I'd known sooner. Just used the fireball one on a dragon and it worked well.

Spent a few hours last night building up smithing. Went to Whiterun, used the blacksmiths to make daggers. Sold the daggers to the blacksmiths and bought more iron and leather. When I ran out of iron and still had leather, I'd make leather braces. Go to my house to sleep for 48 hours and go back for more. Managed to unlock the daedric armour perk and now have cool daedric armour.

Also finally started on the main questline and went to meet with Delphine. Then went to Riften to find some dude.

I’ve got a house!

Also, for those who care, I’ve found that you can revive Lydia if you are willing to enter a command into the cheat console. Sadly, such luxuries are not available to PS3 owners. So Lydia’s body is lying (practically) naked next to Fort Dunstead. I took everything she had and sold it.

I also find this troubling:
Quote:
While fans are complaining of bugs across all versions of the game, those playing the title on Sony's PlayStation 3 console have more reason than most: a bug triggers when the game save file exceeds a certain size, at which point the game begins a gradual decline.

When the bug hits, the game's frame rate - the speed and smoothness with which the screen is updated - begins to slow, making certain areas all but unplayable. Worse, as the save file grows so too does the chance of the game freezing altogether, forcing the player to reset the console and lose any progress made since the last save.

I had a bit of a lag in Whiterun yesterday. They don’t say what the file size is, but I notice in increases with almost every save. According to the article, any changes you make is included in the save file. That includes any pots in dungeons you’ve opened.

Anyway, think I’d better start trying to up my skills in some areas now.

And while I am thinking this, why no Move/Kinect support? You’d think this game would be ideal for that kind of controller.

Something about your PS3 save file going above the 25Mb mark is supposed to give real issues, IIRC.

Finally, dragon scale armour, woohoo! :) I've got enough scales to make several sets (light armour specialism) especially after a frost dragon attacked me at the mage's college. In the middle of the night so nobody was around to help me. Grr. Still, its bones make a nice addition to the courtyard around the statue.

Now to have an argument with some giants.
