Is that because of the flashing lights 8-)

Thanks Jon - I'll get me credit card out tonight.

Definitely. Flashing lights give you such a performance increase it's insane.

But yeah, definitely get Skyrim; it really is a stunningly good game. Unless you really want a physical paper map you may as well get it from Steam (it requires activation via Steam regardless of how you purchase it) and save the wait for having something delivered.

IMHO the paper map is completely useless.

It has half a dozen locations on it and really doesn't show any detail or anything.

Imagine a map of the whole UK on an A3 sheet of paper. The marked locations are London, Leeds, Manchester, Edingburgh, Cardiff and Birmingham...

...and you've just been told to go meet someone in South Otterington.

The game is really good though. As an ex-WoW player I thought I'd know exactly what was coming at each stage/quest/etc...

However, it's a lot deeper than WoW. Mainly because of the emphasis on the story but also because of the amazing number of side stories/side quests that are available. It's a bit like WoW was when I joined at the very beginning of Aerie Peak when I was one of the highest lvl chars and in one of the strongest guilds (that was started by me and a few friends). We had the story of the gates opening and all the main stuff like that (can't remember the details now).

I'm maybe around 12-13 hours of gameplay in and I've only completed 2 or 3 of the main story quests. I've wanted to take my time and get into the story and background a bit more and the villagers and other NPCs have side quests and stories that unveil a whole history of background and sub-plots etc...

I love it. I can also not worry about having to play it obsessively for fear of falling behind as when I'm not playing the game doesn't do anything.

The only down side is that I'm playing on XBox so not getting the full effect of the new graphics engine.

Ooh! Something that I have enjoyed a LOT and is ridiculously useful!

Raising zombies!

It's part of the conjuration tree and IIRC you get it at the beginning if you are a Dark Elf.

It's a lot easier to take down a number of monsters at a time when you have one of them fighting for you! I've been trying to lvl it up for my next lvl :D

I was especially pleased with the giant spider that I reincarnated :D

OK, Dark Elves are Destruction and Alteration (not Conjuration). Oh well, still using oakflesh a lot :D

I've got Elder Scrolls: Oblivion GOTY on the way, so if that's any good I'll be getting Skyrim

Oblivion does have its flaws for sure, a lot of the changes in Skyrim are specifically to resolve these issues. I'd strongly suggest having a look at TESNexus for some of the larger bug-fixing mods available (Obscuro's Oblivion Overhaul is the one I use).

My tech still hasn't caught up with Oblivion.

I've been waiting to have the money for chuffing years.

Do you have a machine capable of playing Oblivion at all? If so you're welcome to borrow my copy for a while as I'm rather preoccupied with this other game at the moment!

I've played about four hours of it round a friends house. You'll see from my frequency here that I'm no gamer, most of my gaming is small puzzle games on my iPhone.

But this is excellent! To the point I want to play it more. But I'd need to buy the game and games console, I don't have a TV so that'd be extra, plus the TV license...

Maybe after Christmas in the sales :P
