Lovefilm's digital catalogue of movies and TV shows are likely to be made available to PS3, Wii and iPad owners in the not-too-distant future.

The European movie rental service has just signed a deal with streaming technology provider Widevine that will allow it to offer movies on demand "playable on many new devices" like game consoles.

A Widevine spokesperson told Edge: "In addition to Wii and PS3 on the near term roadmap for Widevine to enable for Lovefilm are iPad, Mac, PC, Andriod, Humax STB and SharpTV."

A Lovefilm rep added: "The Widevine platform allows us to distribute content with ease which is important with the latest developments in technology and it also ensures our members receive the best possible viewing experience. We have a strategy of being on as many devices/platforms as possible."

Lovefilm currently has 1.4 million members. It offers thousands of movies and TV shows online via its Lovefilm Player, and 67,000 titles for DVD rental.

Also, you probably won't sit and watch a film on a 10" screen or smaller too often...

They already stream from their website using Flash, so I don't know what they mean when they say they plan to bring streaming to the Mac and PC. :?

I think they mean in terms of what Widevine might bring to it, at a guess :?

Android? Who has a mobile download data allowance that would allow them to download even one film a month?
