Quote:
UK passengers travelling with major airlines experience the most baggage problems when flying with British Airways, a survey has claimed.

One in 3.8 BA passengers have had their luggage lost, damaged, or delayed in the past five years, said the study by insurance company LV.

BA said the figure was "complete rubbish".

LV added that its survey of 2,007 passengers showed that Virgin Atlantic was the next worst performing.

It said one in 8.3 Virgin passengers reported experiencing luggage problems.

In third place was Dubai-based Emirates, with one in nine passengers claiming to have been affected, followed by Easyjet, one in 11.1, and Ryanair, one in 12.5.

I am surprised at Easyjet and Ryanairs figures. They charge a fortune to put them in the hold and they can still lose them!

I can't honestly believe that figure. One in four? That would be millions of people per year losing their baggage or having it damaged. Somewhere near 100 people on every long haul flight BA ran! I can't see how any airline could possibly survive that kind of effect. Maybe they took the survey the week Terminal 5 opened?

Well I suppose if they can't fly anywhere because the cabin staff are on strike they can't lose your baggage.

That would have to be a definitive yes then. :)

Guys, you have to realise that 1 in 3.8 is the answer to this question:

In last five years, have BA lost, delayed or damaged your luggage? YES/NO

So this information does not provide much insight into the problem, except maybe for the ranking of airlines and even that is not reliable. For example budget airlines might not have been so popular in the past so less people flew with => less lost luggage by them.

More reliable would be incident per 1000 bags/passengers figure for this year.

Well I've only flown with them once, and they successfully lost my bag!
