This was good though:

Quote:
His best-known anecdote recalls the day in March, 2000, when, after receiving a knighthood from Prince Charles, he was driving his Mercedes away from Buckingham Palace.

He was stopped by a palace guard who joked: "Who do you think you are? Stirling Moss?" Moss reportedly replied: "Sir Stirling Moss, actually."

No information on how he fell down a lift shaft - whether the lift failed, the door was faulty and opened without the lift being there etc. Or whether there is an investigation under way...

I hope he recovers swiftly. One of the last real motoring heroes we still have.

The BBC reported this last night, and after describing his injuries (broken ankles, damaged vertebra etc.), went on to say his condition was 'comfortable'.
Comfortable, to me, is a nice warm bed. Not multiple impact related bone injuries. I'd describe that as 'wracked with pain'.

He should be used to going from 0-60 in 3 seconds - though maybe not vertically.
;)

No seriously, I hope he recovers quickly - he's one of the last true gents in motor racing, next to Jackie Stewart.

80 years old and surviving a fall down 3 flights, wow.

I hope he recovers fully, and I hope they get the lift fixed

The accident occurred when the door to the lift at his home opened before the lift had arrived. Sir Stirling stepped into the shaft, thinking the lift was there when it was not.

If this wasnt a legend and a old bloke at that who suffered some nasty injuries this sentence would be funny as [LIFTED].

It's a bit Harold Lloyd isn't it?

I have to say 'Sir Stirling Moss Plunged Down LIft Shaft' must win some sort of prize for the most unlikely but true headline ever.

And no crash helmet. What was he thinking? I hope he gets better. Though at 80 it might be a while before he is running marathons.

Has anyone made any jokes yet?

How about 'if Stirling Moss offers you a lift, just say no'

Some Stirling Moss jokes.

I see Sterling Moss has been shafted

Sterling Moss the fastest reader in the world
2 stories in 3 seconds!

My girlfriend was sucking my cock last night when I told her to give me a Stirling Moss.
"What's that?" She asked.
"I want you to go down right to the bottom of my shaft" I replied.
