I'm still looking forward to the next generation of FW. (8+)

Sounds interesting, but I can't help but thinking whether this may be the beginning of the end for Firewire...

Any thoughts?

I guess it depends if Apple/firewire group come up with something better...
Seeing as the new MacBooks don't have Firewire...That may be so...

Well, there are patents our there for 1600 and 3200 versions of FW, based around the present 800 spec, so I can't see it giving up just yet.

It's all well and good having the patents, but is there any word of products actually being developed?

There'll be the same range of products as now, I would guess. High-speed data transfer devices, pro level camera and audio gear for a start. I'd expect to see it move to the purely professional end of things, leaving the domestic market open to USB3.

Let's not forget that FW is capable of far more than just connecting camcorders and hard drives to a PC.

I like networking with FW. Quite handy sometimes. Fast too.

Don't forget daisychaining, too. Try that with USB devices without a hub. ;)
