But Liberal Democrat home affairs spokesman Chris Huhne called for more information about the schemes to be made available.

He said: "The concern is that this will do nothing for the safety of children and could even lead to an increase in sex offenders."

I'd like more information as well...

Plus, what about people who, when they were 16 or so, had girlfriends/boyfriends who were still 15 and were caught? Aren't they also classified as paedophiles? 20 years later, they probably aren't into children, probably into 35 year olds... :?

And what sort of information is given out? Names and addresses? Will this lead to increases in lynchings? :?

Well, there's no time like the run up to an impending election to bring out populist laws. Of course anyone who dares to question will be accused of defending paedophiles... A few examples of what might happen if this goes ahead.

Well not just that but people who are convicted of low level sexual offences may identified as people on the sex offenders register rather than thier crime also being published.

I'm in no way an expert on that register but several groups have stated that it covers too wide a range of offences and is unrelliable due to generalisation.
There should be a register for sexual offence such as rape, serious sexual assualt and peadophillia (with there being a <four-five year close in range on the age of consent for 14 and 15 year olds and <2 years for 12-13 year olds.)

I believe that accepting a caution instead of going to court for something truly innocent like taking pictures at a school play can result in your name on the register, in the same way as someone who abducts and rapes babies.

I feel a gap in the market. I’m going to start up:
www.pitchforksandflames.com for all your mob-handed vigilante needs. I’m waiting for the cull of paediatricians.

In the souh west a few years ago, the homes of paediatricians were targetted.

Morons.

I personally feel paedophiles who have sexually abused children should have forced genital mutilation. IMO there is a world of difference between someone who looks at pictures and someone who abducts children to abuse them.

The "south west"? Not sure about that, but it did happen in South Wales.

The first case I remember was in Portsmouth, in the mid to late 90s.

No that was people protesting about peodophiles in one of the roughest council estates. No peadiatricians were harmed in this protest!! Though one car was torched and several people were immedialty rehoused.

The house of a peadiatrician was vandalised during the protest...

Sorry but it never happened in Portsmouth.

Just what is the truth? In August 2000, a female paediatrician consultant called Yvette Cloete was indeed labelled a "paedo" after a campaign by the News of the World to name and shame paedophiles in the community.

The incident took place in Newport, Gwent, not in Portsmouth (where there had been anti-paedophile protests after eight-year-old Sarah Payne was murdered) or London.

Did it coincide with the 5 people fleeing the Paulsgrove estate? I heard it on Radio Solent at the time, but I was driving, so I might have misheard that both were on the Paulsgrove estate...

It was at that time. General hysteria being whipped up by the "news of the world" campaign against peodophiles, the people moved out of the estate was for there protection due to there past being exposed.

It was definitely in Wessex. When I was doing my paediatrics rotation, at least two of the paeditricians had their homes attacked. Neither of them were in the news.
