BT to cut 10% of workforce as it announces £1.28bn loss

BT is axing 15,000 jobs over the coming year, roughly 10% of its workforce, as it tries to save costs after announcing a dramatic plunge into the red and warning that revenues will drop this year.

The company said it wants to cut operating costs and capital expenditure by more than £1bn this year. As it looks to cut costs, BT has already axed 15,000 jobs over the past year - a third more than had originally been expected - and the company said today that it expects to lose a similar number this year.

another Great British triumph by management …

recession has nothing to do with bad management
BT tried to take overseas its mediocre management practices
and failed abysmally costing UK employees there jobs

i wonder if the management are prepared to forego pensions, bonuses, shares and high pay to retain any staff that are no longer in employment, no longer in employment by Great British management, i wont hold my breath …

was used to posting in the meeting place as on the 'other' forum no one could post on the news forum …
but if the 'news' forum here is for general news items as well as tech news items, so be it …

Those job losses will be in Customer Service no doubt, leaving their sales team at full strength and the helpdesks incapable of coping.

And so BT's support degrades further. Nice move BT, yet another reason I am leaving you.
