A man who ran a music-sharing website with almost 200,000 members has been found not guilty of conspiracy to defraud at Teesside Crown Court.

Music industry to continue fight with Oink

Quote:
The IFPI says it is owed £180,000 in unpaid royalties from Oink, which is an invite-only file sharing website. Kennedy said that the IFPI would consider civil proceedings against Ellis in order to recover the costs.

Love to know how they worked the figures out... Be even more interested to see a civil court outcome :)

Quote:
According to the IFPI annual report, roughly a quarter of all recorded music industry revenues now come from digital sales, but illegal file-sharing and other forms of online piracy are causing "severe damage".

In a statement, Kennedy said: "It would be great to report that these innovations have been rewarded by market growth, more investment in artists, and more jobs. Sadly, this is not the case.

"Digital piracy remains a huge barrier to market growth and is causing a steady erosion of investments in local music.
"

That's not the fault of piracy you arse, that's the fault of the diseased industry itself

Unfortunately it's a lot easier for the music companies to win a civil court case, so I really don't expect "Oink" to win again.

I reckon they will tbh. Or at least as an invite only they will probably have a lot of the members pay towards some costs for running it

The don't have any of the content themselves, that is the (to some extent) beauty of P2P software, there is no need for a central server to store it, just details of which tracker to go to to find people who have it etc.

exactly, All Google stores in relation to the sites is the website containing the link to the material, not the material itself, entirely different :)
