Renault have followed Ferrari's lead. These regulation changes are dead in the water, abort them now.

It just goes to show, it isn't just the big money teams that don't want these regs.

At this rate, they'll only be Force India on the grid next year!

Nope, can't see it myself. Again it dilutes F1 into two lesser formula, no one wants that.

All this two-tier stuff is a load of crap tbh. F1 has always been unofficially two-tier with teams like Ferarri, McLaren, etc at the front and the other guys chasing them. Has it ever been on an even keel?

Well, the opportunities have always been equal. Mclaren and Ferrari may have been the leading teams for the last few years, though before them it was Williams, and recently Renault have been constructors champions and drivers champions, and who is the leading team at the moment? Brawn, closely followed be Red Bull. Unless you mean "two tier" as in those who win and those who don't? Though you can apply that to any form of sport.

The difference with the proposed reg changes is it WILL be two tier, the regulations actually confirm it.

So, in short, no it hasn't traditionally been a two tier championship. :)

No I mean two tier as in historically Ferarri, McLaren, Williams, Renault have taken the vast majority of wins. This leaves everyone else chasing the pack. This is almost two tier in itself.

Its only this year Brawn and Red Bull have pulled something out of the bag and upset the usual suspects at the front of the grid.

I think all the teams should stick two fingers up at Mosley and Ecclestone and form their own race league. Formula A anyone? Run by the teams, for the teams.

Formula 1 teams and governing body the FIA have failed to emerge from a day of talks on Friday with a concrete solution to the ongoing budget cap row.

An update http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/8049816.stm
F1 supremo Ecclestone reported a more positive outlook, claiming it had been agreed that all the teams should run under one set of regulations - ending fears of a two-tier championship.

Well it's fair to say that hte budget cap is dead in the water, and thank god too. Now, if teams want to compete on an equal footing they need to concentrate on where it is they are lagging behind. As I've pointed out it isn't always on the money.

I'm afraid that's far from certain at the moment.

As an aside, here's something that someone said awhile back that's fairly pertinent to the current problem:

Quote:
The checks and balances in F1 are probably about as good as anything could be in an area like that. Everyone watches everyone else and FISA is supposed to be the sporting referee. I see no need for the FISA president to become involved in the thing at all. I think the FISA stewards should do their job and the starter and safety people should do their jobs. I think it is quite wrong for the president to interfere.

'The present regime puts all its energy into F1 and I have to say, I think, with negative effect.'

The source? Max Mosley circa 1991...

This is where it starts to get complicated. Ferrari and Renault have both said they will pull out of F1 if the changes go ahead, while Lola F1 have said they will submit an entry for the 2010 season if the changes are brought in.

Quote:
Lola, who last participated in Formula One racing in the late 1990s, admitted they re-examined their position after the original cap of £30 million was raised to £40 million, but concluded that the new regulations still present an opportunity not to be missed.

I don't know how this is going to pan out, but the FIA need to decide, and sharpish.
