Unless there's a drastic change in what's being broadcast and how, I'll never own one of these

You might want one when they turn the analogue radio signals off. :)

I have a digibox on the TV, and when I'm at home I'm usually close to the computer. I never really felt the urge to listen to the radio in the bath, so I don't think I'd ever use one at home. Even if I do want sound in the bath, I'll probably use an FM extender which I already have. Far cheaper to drown a 99p FM receiver than an expensive DAB or Internet radio.

In the car is another matter entirely. I seriously need my car radio to work, if only to drown out that frightful whining the poxy engine makes.

No, I mean there's nothing worth listening to, so it doesn't matter how it's broadcast IME ;)

Have you tried BBC 6 Music? Radio 7? You might find something on there from the Beeb, amid the noise and chatter of all the crap "music" stations shouting for attention.

That’s not for some time off. At the moment, who’s going to buy a digital radio set when the analogue stuff is not going to be obsolete next year?

M'Lordships to save FM radio?

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/12/08/lords_of_dab/

Quote:
It isn't just DAB, but digital radio in general that's proving to be a problem all over Europe. Germany has stopped funding DAB and postponed the move to DAB+, and although official policy of moving radio from analogue transmission remains, it isn't clear how this will be achieved.

"DAB – although vital – is in intensive care and living a sad, hospitalised existence," admitted the director of Deutschlandradio (German national public radio) Willi Steul [translation here].

France has postponed its digital radio transmissions for a year, leading to widespread skepticism that it will ever launch. The French have adopted DMB, not DAB+, although the former is around 40 per cent less efficient, according to Steve Green.

Fcuk me, it's in a right state
