clicky

The placement of the camera on the iPod nano seems to have caused some concern, due its quite novel approch to placemnet on the nano's body.

That is odd - I would have thought that behind the screen would have been a better place to put it.

I have to say that I thought the same thing when I went into Dixons to have a demo.

I turned on the camera and then held it by the non-screen part to hold up to film. I then had to work out where the lens was and adjust my grip accordingly.

I wasn't wholly impressed. Once I had got used to holding it by the edges (like holding a CD) I found the video quality to be quite good.

No you don't. You hold it by it's edges, just like I do when I'm taking a picture with my iPhone 3G.

It's not as if Apple don't make design blunders from time to time - like this, for example...

Sometimes the whole 'think different' thing works, sometimes it doesn't...

I would imagine they intend the device to be used in landscape format with the user holding the edges of the device. Still, its gonna get tricky yo press the buttons to stop/start recording without getting in the way of the lens.

I liked those. I found them far more comfortable than a lot of other mice.

Whenever I used them I couldn't tell what orientation they were in so eventually they would rotate through 90 degrees and I'd have to move the mouse side to side to get the cursor to go up and down on the screen.

They were nice for short periods of time, I remember spending a good few hours using one doing some sequencing once and got horrible cramp in my hand. But for the first hours or so it was nice to use.

Hmm, I wrap my hand around the 'phone and use my thumb to take the picture...

As to the location of the sensor, it is probably the only place in the case with enough space. Behind the screen, there probably isn't enough depth to have the sensor and lens.

Also, doesn't it use a rolling or rotating shutter, which messes up if you move the nano whilst filming (like most mobilephones, it must be said).
