If updates messing up consoles makes them suck Donkey Balls then you can include Sony and MS then too, no? |

Not really, unless you can give me an example of when their updates have messed up all their consoles. The point of contention is this has caused iPlayer functionality to stop for everyone who updates to it. That's fundamentally different a firmware update that may cause a small percentage of consoles to fail, which any firmware update to any device has the potential to do. I don't remember any PS3 or 360 updates ever uniformly breaking anything for PS3/360 owners. Basically looks like they just didn't test it with iPlayer. But then the Japanese console manufacturers do tend to have a very lackadaisical attitude to their EU customers anyway... Jon |

Why do I need to give an example where updates have messed up ALL their consoles? The point is at one time or another Sony and MS have both been guilty of releasing updates which have had a negative effect on the way their consoles work. Look at the latest PS3 update and the problems some people seem to be having. The Wii update has only broken iPlayer and not any actual core functionality of the console. You cant call one without calling the other in my opinion. |

Because that's what this is? There's a difference between making changes which not everyone approves of - and you really can't please all the people all of the time - and actually breaking a given piece of code which previously worked correctly. Sony and MS have put out firmware updates that some people don't like or have caused a small percentage of consoles to fail, but that's not the same scale as this. Every single wii that updates will see this failure.
Only to a limited number of those consoles in people's homes, never all of them. And most of the changes brought in in firmware updates on those have been 'negative' in a subjective sense, rather than in an objective sense of removing actual functionality. The only example of the actual removal of functionality on the PS3 I can remember is that the recent V3 update removed the ability to install linux on the PS3. Given the very small percentage of PS3 owners who ever took advantage of that, I'm not sure it's equivalent to breaking flash in the web browser of every single Wii. [/quote]Look at the latest PS3 update and the problems some people seem to be having. What aspect of the 'core functionality' of the PS3 has the recent firmware update 'broken'? And no, being able to install linux is not 'core functionality' to a games console. |

Well two PS3 users on this forum are reporting wi-fi no longer connecting after the latest udate. Also with a previous update a lot of gamers had issues with games they didnt previous. Assassins Creed was quite a common one. So I'll say again, there's examples where the other manufacturers have released dodgy updates for their consoles. I dont care if it didnt break every single one. I never claimed it did. I said the others are as guilty of [LIFTED] firmware updates and should all the tarred with the same brush, not just Nintendo picked out individually IMO. |
