Gibson files for bankruptcy protection
I've always preferred the shape of the Gibson Les Paul guitar to that of a Fender Stratocaster, and I absolutely can't stand the look of the Telecaster.
In fact, I liked the look of the Les Paul so much, I bought a Tanglewood Les Paul copy about 26 years ago, and despite sporadically attempting to play the thing, I never got on with it. I still have it though, in an original Gibson Les Paul hard case.

I’d say that the likelihood that that this being bought by another guitar maker is pretty high.

If the rumours are to be believed, Yamaha are keen to acquire the rights to the Gibson name and IP.

Personally I won't miss this current incarnation of Gibson, they've done some terrible things which have seriously impacted users of products from companies that they bought in order to acquire technology. I'll never forgive them for what they did to Opcode, which left a lot of users with expensive non-functioning music applications and froze all MIDI development on the Mac until Apple built it in at a system level with OSX.
