Hexus article
What could possibly go wrong.
I assume (hope) that's it's not vanilla XP rather a custom heavily locked down version but even so.

'However, on a tour of one of the control rooms it was spotted that several PC systems were running Microsoft's 2001 vintage Windows XP operating system.'

First of all, Windows for Warships as it is known in the trade is NOT your common or garden XP. A sfar as I've heard It's the same kernel, essentially (which in fact IIRC goes back to windows NT 3.5 without much in the way of fiddling with), and the same GUI but the middle chunk is pretty much custom. Very unlikely to have the kinds of exposed services WannaCry used to get around for example.

Secondly, just because you saw a couple of XP screens doesn't mean that's what all the critical processes on the ship run.

However I wouldn't trust Sir Michael Fallon (Seriously, the fact he got a knighthood...) to tell me the time of day and he doesn't know a secure computer from a cardboard box.

Why not "Portholes"?

:D

At the time it was developed, the current 'commercial' version of Windows was 'Windows for Workgroups' (yes, THAT long ago). Therefore 'Windows for Warships'. I assume if there was a version of it optimised for arable farming that would be 'Window for Warthogs'.
