It took one year to fix the sink hole on The Mancunian Way (A56) road in Manchester. ONE. YEAR!!

At least China got things moving again quickly, we could learn a few things from them - in this country we close the road for 3 weeks, employ a team of structural engineers to take measurements and stand around for weeks on end inspecting the hole then 9 months of a contraflow in place with a 30mph limit. And it costs millions.

No, not terribly environmentally friendly but if the hole is endangering buildings on either side the options become somewhat more limited. How much more of a mess would it have been if they'd had to demolish the surrounding buildings because their foundations had become unstable (in a major earthquake zone)?

Most of their electricity generation is low carbon for starters, okay it nuclear and as everyone is well aware that has other issues but causing global warming isn't one of them. I believe they're quite keen on electric vehicles and their public transport network is very efficient as well.

That may well be but they haven't made the top 30 countries in recent years and let's not mention Fukushima.

Anyway they filled a hole in a couple of days!
