WhatsApp to give users' phone numbers to Facebook for targeted ads | Technology | The Guardian https://www.theguardian.com/technology/ ... rgeted-ads My mates barely use WhatsApp now so I might just ditch it. But especially if it's clearly on it's way to selling your data, as was inevitable. |

Half my mates use Viber and the other half use Tengi. Everyone I know ditched Whatsapp years ago. |

I used Viber in the beginning when it was good for phone calls abroad. But ditched it because no one else really used it. |

I've only been using Tengi for a few months. My missus got a £5 Amazon voucher of of it last month. |

They will end up in court, again, here in Germany, if they try that. It is illegal. |

How do I choose not to share my account information with Facebook to improve my Facebook ads and products experiences? https://www.whatsapp.com/faq/en/general/26000016 However
Terms appeared when I went into WhatsApp today so I followed step one - still thinking about ditching it though. Allegedly they're breaching an agreement with the FTC from 2012 https://www.theguardian.com/technology/ ... vacy-users |

I had to threaten Facebook with court to remove my personal details from their system. I have never ever signed up for ANY social media application, yet they still collected and stored my details. Their excuse was that some relative had signed up and they were just completing their profile. I had to remind them about the data protection act which specifically excludes the collection and saving of private data without permission. They should be called antisocial media!! |

Any page on the web that has a FaceBook “Like” button will be a direct link back to FaceBook HQ (short, technical infobite: it uses an HTML iFrame load the button from FaceBook’s domain sp it can access their cookies for any domain you visit). What you’ll need to do is clear out any FaceBook cookies every so often, as they will be dropping them in and tracking them. You probably will want to install an Ad Blocker (your browser supplier will help you with this) and blacklist FaceBook, Twitter, and others who may be tracking you. |

This is why I have my browser set to delete cookies every time it shuts down. I also have the 'better privacy' and 'noscript' plugins. |
