UK workers want 9-to-3 to become the norm | TechRadar http://www.techradar.com/news/world-of- ... rm-1326140 I don't doubt it sounds great to most, but guess who would like to help you with that remote access etc? Certainly not the people who came up with those statistics, they wouldn't dream of it... |

Like that's going to happen. Individuals can't afford the drop in pay. |

There needn't necessarily be a drop in pay if productivity remains the same or improves. I believe there was a car factory in one of the Scandinavian countries where they reduced peoples hours (on the same pay) and productivity actually improved because people were less tired and more engaged with what they were doing. At some point you'll hit diminishing returns but I'm not sure there's any evidence to say we're there yet. Not that I expect the current government or any employers to actively engage with this. Also, don't people in the UK work some of the longest hours overall in the EU but we have pretty poor productivity compared to other countries. |

Yup. Of course those two facts are entirely coincidental I'm sure. Turns out if you precipitate massive inequality and insecurity in the workplace, leaving the majority of employees with no emotional stake in the product or service they provide, people's productivity suffers. I mean, who knew? |
