Quote:
George Osborne, Cameron’s closest political friend, who lost his job as chancellor after helping run the unsuccessful remain campaign, was put forward to become a companion of honour.

From Wikipedia

Quote:
The Order of the Companions of Honour is an order of the Commonwealth realms. It was founded in June 1917 by King George V as a reward for outstanding achievements in the arts, literature, music, science, politics, industry, and religion.

The order consists of the Sovereign plus no more than 65 members.

What was George's outstanding achievement exactly?

Making everyone poorer except the usual suspects? The pasty tax? Helping banksters get away with aiding trafficking of every description?

Although he came across as a cyborg, so maybe it's for science.

Getting the second highest political office in the country while having no discernable talent of any form at all.

You just know that former PMs and chancellors get some kind of honour. It’s invariably going to happen, regardless. If Cameron isn’t in the Lords in a couple of years, I’ll be surprised. Ditto May and some of her more senior cabinet members, including Johnson. It’s just what happens, and the Tories love that kind of progression, so there won’t be a halt to this any time soon.

I imagine a few will be culled on the quiet when it comes to the committees. Scale will be the thing...

Sepp Blatter said he was appalled at the corruption.

I'm not sure it's corruption per se - I doubt very much if any of them are for anything underhand and it's not as if Cameron will need favours from any of them in the future. There's nothing really shifty about it in that sense. It is certainly quite.. venal and unpalatable and suggests a culture of patronage we really shouldn't be having in the 21st century though.
