Recipes, iPlayer and News: here are the changes coming to BBC Online | TechRadar

Most of it reads as sensible to someone like me who doesn't use it, but I seriously doubt 'integration' across the services will actually take place; termination seems much more likely.

Quote:
Previous ring-fenced funding for iPlayer-only content is to be removed, meaning we'll likely see fewer programmes sat solely on the iPlayer service. BBC Three recently went online-only, which raises questions over whether this latest announcement will have any impact on the future of Three.

That's especially idiotic for too many reasons...

Whippingdale panicking is rather funny

Quote:
“It’s not my job to tell the BBC whether [or not] to broadcast The Voice, or Strictly Come Dancing or indeed to put recipes up on its website,” he told a conference in London. “We have said firstly that the BBC needs to be more distinctive. And also it has to be sensitive to its market impact and not be directly going out of its way to compete with commercial offerings.”

Apparently the last few months, hell, even the last few weeks, were all a weird, somehow UK-wide dream where he was never out of the papers...

Nation rejoices as tyranny of free BBC recipes ends
Quote:
Culture secretary John Whittingdale said: “I knew it was close to impossible; just one man, the entire press and a wealth of regulatory powers against the might of a subsection of a website.
“But somehow, against the odds, we triumphed and ensured an extraordinary victory for free market forces. Best of all, this will save the licence payer £120 a year.
“Not individually. In total.”

Also..

Who benefits from the Tory decision to axe BBC recipes?

Go on, take a guess before you read it.

Yup highly telling that it's Murdoch who stands to benefit.

I've used the BBC good food website for many years - it has recipes from their programmes, and the units are largely metric so easier to follow compared to US-measurements elsewhere.

BBC Food (the site they were axing IIRC) is not the same as BBC Good Food. That one is a commercial entity by BBC Worldwide and was staying anyway.
