The BBC is to investigate the possibility of launching on-line streaming service to rival Netflix and Amazon Prime
This is basically the first realistic move in the licence fee going 11 years from now, in my opinion.

Mark

PS - Terrible name.

There's been chatter about this for months. I imagine it won't be the only thing that Whippingdale will be pushing for after the recent charter fiasco.

I imagine iPlayer will become a two tier system like Prime, with both 'free' and paid content. Especially since BBC3 now only exists online and BBC rivals are so sh1t when... well, in general.

There's the whole kerfuffle already about various bits of the website closing and rolling BBC News and BBC world into one service. Which won't work as they have mutually exclusive audiences for pete's sake.

I was just thinking about what ITV will be contributing to this paid for sub service... I mean seriously, what would you actually pay for there?

Presumably if the Beeb is involved so are Four as a public money thing.
