The UK's new polar research ship is to be named RRS Sir David Attenborough, after Boaty McBoatface previously topped a public vote.

The £200m research ship will be named after the world-renowned naturalist and broadcaster, Science Minister Jo Johnson confirmed.

The decision, which comes days before Sir David turns 90, is in recognition of his "legacy in British broadcasting", the government said.

I think we can all get behind the final name, though to some it will always be Boaty McBoatface.

Apparently they're naming one of it's submarines Boaty, in reference to the poll.
