While it might seem petty, I do think it is questionable that, if you are promoting social and economic unity, you then commemorate "internal" battles on objects that are going to be used and seen every day...

By all means commemorate them in their own way, but promoting them in this way sends the wrong message.

I could understand if it was a pound coin but I agree doing it as a euro seems, well, odd.

I think it's in bad taste. But London has a Waterloo station and France has Austerlitz.
The monument at Waterloo is worth seeing if anyone passes by.

I didn't hear any objections from Germany to our D-day landings 50p coin in the 90's

Pounds is our own currency. Euro is a currency which eurozone countries use.

Is that because it's a 50p coin, which wouldn't be useful in Germany, as opposed to a euro which is legal tender in France?
