2nd amendment is all about being armed to form a militia if the government starts being evil towards the citizens. The fact that these people are being described as "militia" plays into the mythology if this. In reality, regardless of how crappy the US govt has been in the eyes of the people, there have been no significant (or successful) armed uprisings since the civil war.

They call themselves a militia (which is why the press have been using the phrase) but they patently have no understanding of what the term actually means, or how the 2nd amendment actually applies to them.

A prison warder today turned himself in for killing an 11 year old girl on New Year's Eve. He say's that he was at his wit's end and grabbed a small calibre gun and shot into a crowd of people, because they were making too much noise with the fireworks, celebrating New Year. Nah, just 'accidentally' load all the weapons on the stands. Very few of the people in those photos are following anything like good firearm safety practices...
