I've given up worrying about this, and I've reached the conclusion that it is simply a new order of natural selection.

This story seems to tick a few boxes:

She was a local Republican official

The obituary also describes Bond as having been "on fire for the lord", and an active member of the Christian Motorcycle Association

I do wonder, if you are fiddling with this kind of thing, why you’d not take the ammunition out.

Or at least leave the ruddy safety on. If she was ex USN she'd have been taught proper gun handling protocols at basic training.

I'm with Spreadie, evolution in action, I'm afraid.

Depends on the type of hand gun - some dont have a proper safety trigger - think it is the Glock ?

In which case, take the bullet pez dispenser out. If it has to be in the gun for balance or fit, then empty it. I’m in the evolution in progress camp on this one.

How does shooting yourself in the face with a boob mounted gun not qualify?

Quite so. There are two rules to being a Darwin award candidate. One, you must have killed yourself in a ludicrous or highly unusual fashion and two, you must have no natural offspring.

The rational is you've removed yourself from the gene pool for the common good before your stupidity was passed on and that Darwin would look favourably on your self-sacrifice.
