Hmm, they did away with cheques over here nearly 2 decades away. You don't get a cheque book over here, you have to specifically ask for a cheque and they will print up a couple of custom cheques for you... But I've never seen anybody use one.

They still crop up over here every so often, eBay sale/credit card balance payment etc. Mostly out of sheer laziness ;)

Cheques are incredibly poorly policed now also

Watchdog signed a number of cheques from their accounts as Mickey Mouse and they weren't questioned

Cheques are so laughably insecure I'd advise everyone not to use them. It's so ridiculously easy to bank cheques with a changed payee or no/missing signatures it beggars belief.
