So it looks like the man convicted of the Lockerbie bombing is to be released on the grounds of compassion
It has been said that he was not the actual bomber but was merely involved in the planning, well Im sorry if he was in anyway involved in the event he should be left to rot... just my 2 pence worth

and I finally got around to migrating over from the dennis forum, did I miss anything ;)

*Edit*

Considering how long it took to get him into prison (and the dedication and effort), not to mention the enormity of his crime, does anyone smell a rat here? Why should he be released just because he has cancer? Ronnie Biggs was a saint in comparison, and look at how long we held on to him for...

You've also got the Americans getting very vocal, and even with the scale of the crime, I wouldn't have thought a new administration would particularly give a sh1t... I suspect someone's doing some hefty string pulling :?

The government is desperate to get him released - and more importantly to get him to waive his appeal - asap. Otherwise, the increasingly desperate measures they are resorting to to keep the actual evidence with which he was prosecuted away from his defence lawyers will finally fall apart, and in all likelihood it will be shown that Libya had nothing to do with Lockerbie, and this man was innocent all along.

It's worth releasing him, if only to piss the Americans off.

Or we'll do them a deal, we'll keep him in prison if they let Gary McKinnon out.

Very sadly we'll almost certainly never know who really did bobm the Panam 'plane. There is next to nothing in the public domain that convinces me that this man was involved, certainly not "beyond reasonable doubt". I believe that whoever did the bombing (choose your conspiracy theory) the CIA et al were determined to blame a Lybian for geopolitical reasons...

Unfortunately, if you can't pin it on a secret cabal of Jewish lizard masons, the conspiracy loons that rule the internet show little interest.
