Yeah, I've got so much money that I can afford to buy a new Mac Pro just to run CS5. I'm still using CS1 and haven't found a compelling reason to upgrade as each version just seems to add more and more stuff I won't use. |

No surprise there. I expect a lost of software companies will be thinking along the same paths. I read today that Rosetta will be an installable option in Snow Leopard. You have to ask for it. |

I guess it depends what percentage of their user base is still on PowerPC. If a lot of the code is optimised assembly language, for example, then having to code it for Intel and PowerPC doubles the amount of development and testing required on that part of the program. If PowerPC accounts for a very low percentage of upgraders of the last version, then it probably isn't worth the resources... I can't really comment on that, as I don't know how many graphics professionals, who upgrade CS regularly, are still using PowerPC. It doesn't really surprise me that they are dropping it. They have gone 64-bit and use CUDA for calculating effects on Windows, that give that platform a strong advantage for heavy duty workers at the moment, over OS X. If dropping PowerPC allows them to concentrate on moving forward, as opposed to splitting their resources to program for both PowerPC and Intel, then it is something they need to do. |

I always end up upgrading, though I never want to. I have CS1, 2 and 3 installed and 4 sitting unwrapped on my desk at the moment. I use CS1 and only use 3 if a file comes in on it. I'll only install 4 if I get a file in 4, but I haven't received anything yet. I guess I'm going to have to get a couple of second-hand Mac Pros before long, but my G5s are doing me fine for now. |
