And inaccurate, there was never a 64-bit Starter edition! |

Oh well I was always going to do a custom install as - Have XP so no choice - Nice to clear out the “trash” / applications you have never used that accumulates over the years - Will get a new HDD to install on ( probably a 1TB model) and use my old ones as backup |

Why is that ridiculous? That's exactly what I would have expected, although I'd always do a fresh install if possible. It's obvious you can't "upgrade" from 64 bit to 32 bit, or from a Domain enabled product to a non-domain enabled product. You can only do an in-place upgrade to the matching product, or to Ultimate. Anything else would obviously go tits up - think of the installed applications ![]() |

Why can you upgrade from Vista home or pro to 7 pro??? That seems odd to me, especially when you can upgrade to the Ultimate version from those products. ![]() |

You can't ![]() In the same way you can't upgrade from XP home to XP pro, or from Vista Home to Vista Business. |

I meant to type can't! ![]() Why is it, exactly, that you can upgrade from home or pro to ultimate, but you can't upgrade from home or pro to pro. |
