http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/ed ... check.htmlThis reminds me of the scene in Monty Pythons Meaning of Live. In the scene about the miracle of birth, the father was ejected from the birth on the grounds that only people involved in the birth could stay.

FFS.
So, in their eyes, wanting to watch my kids on sports day, without a CRB check, makes me a likely kiddie fiddler?

Next week, adults are banned from recreational pools due to presence of children.

If we just banned children altogether then these problems would all go away, along with many others.

Just think of all those playing fields that can be sold to developers for housing.

My boss was telling me that these days, parents need a CRB check if they do a school run rota with other parents.

This kind of thing is frikkin ridiculous. I need a crb check to work but only because of my job. Once I've joined the NHS local workforce, I do not need to submit to another crb check. Ever. Unless I plan to move to/work in another area.
I would state that unless all teachers had a recent crb check within the last six months, I would refuse my child to attend sports day. If all the parents did this and no one turned up, it would show how ridiculous the whole thing was. CRB checks in this situation are only needed if you're working with children. You need to be in employment. Hence why school run kids do not need CRB checks. Unless they're being paid by the school.

In a lot of high schools there are kids in the sixth form who are 18 and kids in the first year who are maybe 11 or 12.
Does this mean that the older kids have to have a CRB check in order to continue attending the school they are going to?

CRB checks are needed if you are helping out. I have one for the wife’s school - because every so often I go in and do stuff there. Also, you don’t need a CRB check to work in a school. If you don’t have one, you have to have a chaperone. A CRB allows you to be left alone with the children. Generally, though, to keep Ofsted happy and for peace of mind of parents who think everyone is a pedo, CRB checks are generally the norm in schools. I believe they do expire after a certain period of time. I’ll be helping on a school trip next month, so we’re checking that before then.

A CRB check won't automatically stop paedos from accessing children. It just means that those who haven't been caught yet can still offend. My worry is a CRB check is just complacency. It is IMO entirely inadequate.

There was something a while ago about visiting authors having to be crb checked to do school talks. Even though they would never be alone with the children. It all seems so ridiculous. If a parent was on the register I would have guessed that the police would have notified the school.

That was authors having to to get a CRB check for each school they visit. My RB form is only valid at the school I go to. If I were to volunteer to work with another school or outfit with children, I would need another CRB check. Peripatetic music teachers need a check for each school they visit. At £25 a shot, it gets expensive if the school does not foot the bill. The authors were complaining because of this idiotic arrangement. What is needed is a "one for all" CRB check. It is unlikely that the authors would have been left unsupervised, but as I said, schools prefer any visitor who comes in contact with children to have a CRB check whether it's needed or not.

I think that the scheme has made schools lazy and risk averse. So what about plumbers? Would they need a CRB to fix a boiler? Or Glazier to fix a broken window? These people may come into contact with kids if doing the work during school hours, and called to fix a problem. Common sense is needed.

They would be supervised. That's the thing - you don't have to have a CRB check. All that means is that you can not be left alone with children.
