Model maker Hornby has said it will not make a profit this year, due to disappointing sales of London 2012 merchandise and supply problems.

Lower-than-expected sales of Olympics products meant retailers cancelled repeat orders, it said. It also expects substantial disruption to production at a major supplier in China.

I am wondering if the consumer has got wise to the tat people produce to cash in on events like the Olympics. That could be a factor too. Certainly, the velodrome set looked dreadful to me - despite using Scalextrix as a base, it’s very limited in comparison with the erstwhile racing car sets.

I suspect that people really knew that they were going to be ripped off so stuck to a low budget. Like hats T-Shirts etc. It was not well promoted so that might have been a factor. I never even knew that they were doing anything olympic themed.
