Mr Anderson was diagnosed 18 months ago but has spoken about it publicly for the first time for an Alzheimer's Society walk launch on Thursday.

The 83-year-old, who lives in Henley-on-Thames, said of living with the condition: "I've lost my freedom."

Thunderbirds was filmed on Slough Trading Estate in Berkshire and was first broadcast in 1965.

"I've lost my freedom" but he's had a bloody good innings.
I'm not belittling the impact of this disease, but some don't get nearly as long as Gerry, and don't get to do nearly as much as he clearly has done.
This is someone who will be remembered for a very long time to come.
It is very sad news all the same.

Another part of my childhood slowly starts to dim. I was hoping he'd go out in an over-stated and wholly unnecessary explosion.
